THE DANCE CENTRE SOLOIST AGREEMENT

TDC Soloist Agreement - Digital Signature

5100 Union Station, Northport, AL 35473

Studio Owners: Melissa Verzino and Morgan Williams

This Agreement is made and entered into between (Dancer) and The Dance Centre.

Participation in a solo, duo, or trio is a privilege that carries both opportunity and responsibility. While these experiences can provide tremendous artistic growth, they also require a significant commitment of time, effort, financial resources, and personal accountability. By entering into this agreement, families acknowledge that they have reviewed the TDC Solo, Duo & Trio Guidelines and understand the expectations associated with participation.

Rehearsal Expectations

Preparation determines success. Soloists are required to complete a minimum of one hour of solo rehearsal at The Dance Centre each week to remain eligible for consideration at team competitions. Rehearsal hours are tracked throughout the season and reviewed regularly by Company Directors.

Outside rehearsal coaches must receive prior approval from Company Directors.

Private Lessons

As we transition to our 2026-2027 schedule, our priority is to build the strongest class schedule possible before assigning private lesson times. Because of this, private lesson availability will not be finalized until the new schedule is released in July.

Our goal is to have all studios actively utilized for classes during peak after-school hours approximately 3:00-6:30 PM. While we understand these are often the most desirable times for private lessons, using prime-time studio space for lessons rather than classes would not be a sustainable model for serving our students or operating the studio effectively.

Families should expect increased private lesson availability during evenings and weekends. We appreciate your understanding as we balance the needs of all dancers while prioritizing quality training opportunities.

Location

  • All lessons will take place at The Dance Centre.
  • NO solo lessons are allowed outside of The Dance Centre unless you have permission from Melissa or Morgan.

Payment

The fee for each lesson is specific to the individual teacher's rate per hour/session. Payment is due at the time of the private lesson in the manner preferred by the teacher. Teachers are responsible for paying room fees back to The Dance Centre.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations for private lessons must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Failure to do so will result in a cancellation fee equal to the teacher's full rate, along with the student's responsibility for paying the room fee.

Responsibilities

Instructor:

  • Will arrive on time and be prepared for each lesson.
  • Will provide materials necessary for each lesson unless specified otherwise.

Student:

  • Will arrive on time and be prepared for each lesson.
  • Will complete any assignments or practice work given by the instructor.
  • Will practice a minimum of one hour per week. Failure to do so may result in losing their competition spot.

Parents:

  • Parents are NOT allowed in the studio room during choreography sessions or private lessons, as this distracts both the student and instructor.
  • Parents ARE allowed into the studio during the last 5 minutes to watch or video their dancer.

Liability

The instructor is not liable for any injury or damage that may occur during lesson time, except in cases of gross negligence or intentional misconduct.

Competition Selection

We take great care in selecting dancers who reflect the values, standards, and excellence of the TDC brand. These selections are made thoughtfully and are non-negotiable. We ask that all soloists prioritize their group routines above their solos.

Not every eligible solo, duo, or trio will attend every competition due to entry limitations imposed by competition organizations. Selection decisions are final and non-negotiable.

Dancers who are not selected for team competitions may still participate in approved optional competitions and elective events. Selection to perform at a convention or team competition is determined solely by Company Directors and faculty.

Selection decisions may consider:

  • Technical readiness
  • Rehearsal consistency
  • Competition performance and scores
  • Class attendance, especially ballet
  • Professionalism and attitude
  • Team commitment
  • Representation of TDC values

Competition Fees

Competition fees for individual competitions will be added to your account. If you are unable to attend a competition, you must notify TDC at least one month prior to the event in order to be eligible for a refund.

Termination

Either party may terminate this contract with 7 days' written notice. Any prepaid lessons will be refunded if the teacher terminates the contract, or retained if the student terminates without the required notice.

Extra Convention Form

You must complete an Extra Convention Form if you want to be considered to attend an extra convention. Texting a faculty member is not sufficient.

Extra Convention Payment

If signing up for an extra convention, a down payment must be provided at that time. The conventions now require this deposit, and it is NON-REFUNDABLE. If you decide not to attend the convention, you will not receive the down payment back.
