MUSICAL THEATRE

Musical theatre dance can easily be described as the union of a variety of dance styles and a musical theatrical stage performance from which it is taken. Acting, dancing, singing and stage presence is required to perform this type of dance. Combing all these elements along with spoken dialogue recreates the story of the specific musical. Students often find this style of dance to be exciting, creative and challenging.

LYRICAL AND
CONTEMPORARY


Lyrical Jazz is a dance style created by combining ballet and the fluidity of jazz technique. The unique trait of Lyricai is the emotional connection brought to life by the storytelling of the song lyrics and music. Contemporary Jazz follows more in the path of the modern dance lineage. Contemporary seeks to break the mold with new innovative vision of dance. It is not so much to entertain but it is meant to educate, provoke and explore different movements.

ACRO

Acrobatics (acro) class is training that is designed to help students learn acrobatic tricks with precision and safety. It is athletic in nature and includes strength and conditioning along with tumbling tricks like back handsprings and aerials.Poise and flexibility is also included in the class. Acrobatics is commonplace in the dance world today and is used in jazz, contemporary and lyrical dances.

TAP

Tap is a dance that is performed wearing special shoes fitted with metal taps. The steps are characterized by rhymical tapping of the toes and heels. Tap steps are learned which uses the feet to strike the floor as a form of percussive sounds. This dance focuses on musicality the dancer is taught syncopated sounds and rhythms.

BATON


Baton is a sport involving the manipulation of a baton and dance steps in a coordinated routine. Baton combines twirling and dance agility with coordination, flexibility and sometimes acrobatics. Usually performed with music, the combination of all these elements creates a visual image and patterns displaying both technical and artistic expression.
