BALLET

Classical Ballet is an art form created by movement of the body. It originated during the Italian Renaissance in the fifteenth century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. It has since become a widespread and highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary. Ballet is an elaborate style of dance which requires many years of training. It can express moods, tell a story or be an abstract dance. It is the basis for all other forms of dance and can refine posture and proper body alignment.

WHAT TO WEAR FOR BALLET:

All ballet dancers must wear tights and a leotard with hair pulled away from their face, preferably in a bun. Leotards for level 1-5 dancers can be patterned, colored, or solid. Level 6-8 dancers need to be in flesh toned tights and BLACK LEOTARD. All dancers need pink or flesh toned leather or canvas split or full-sole ballet shoes. Older dancers who have been trained on pointe must bring their pointe shoes with them to each class. Fittings for pointe shoes, as well as all of the required clothing items for ballet classes are available in our in-house dance wear boutique, Primadonnas.
